Pedro Mario Álvarez, commonly known as simply Mario, is a Spanish defender currently playing for an Azebaijani side Baku. He was born on 2 February 1982 in Tenerife, Spain.
The product of Atlético Madrid youth system, Mario signed a professional contract with the club in 1999. However, he only played for their C and B teams never appearing for the first team. In 2001, Mario joined Valladolid where he played for five seasons amassing 90 appearances. In the 2003/04 season, he had the possibility to play one match on loan at Barcelona. In the 2006/07 campaign, the centre back represented Recreativo and in between 2007 and 2011 he was part of Getafe team. In 2011, Mario signed for Real Betis and played for the club for two seasons before completing a move to FC Baku.
Mario represented Spain at various youth levels. He made 9 appearances and scored one goal for U16 squad and helped them to win the UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship in 1999.
