Mark van der Maarel is a back of Utrecht. He was born on 12 August 1989 in Arnhem, Netherlands.
Mark’s career took off in amateur Argon, from where the footballer moved to Haarlem. In 2008, van der Maarel was scouted by Utrecht and started to perform for the youth team of the club.
At the beginning of 2009, the player sealed a four-and-a-half-year deal and joined the main squad, where he continues to perform at the position of a right back. Mark made his professional début on 20 September 2009 in the away 1-0 victory over ADO Den Haag. The footballer managed to cement a place in the starting XI due to an injury of the club’s captain and took part in 44 fixtures for Utrecht as of November 2012.
On 5 October 2009, van der Maarel was called up to the Netherlands national U-21 team for the European U-21 Championship qualifiers and made several sub appearances for the squad.
