Markel Susaeta

Markel Susaeta Laskuain is a Spanish flank defender who currently plays for Athletic Bilbao.

Susaeta’s debut for the Basque team was against Barcelona. No surprise that Athletic lost that game however Markel managed to score in that game making the figures on the panel 1-3. By the start of the season 2007/08 he was established as a part of the reserve team. Making it to the main squad he gained the significant 29 appearances in La Liga and scored 4 times.

He spent the following seasons on a decent professional level that was sufficient for him to be labelled a firm first team player though still not a starter. He was one of those to help the Basque side survive in La Liga of 2008/09 scoring a late winner in a 3-2 victory over Malaga on January 31, 2009. Also he was a part of the squad that made it to the final of the Spanish Cup where the Red-and-Whites lost to Barcelona.

Another significant achievement of the player was the career-best 13 goals with 5 in the UEFA Europa League during the season 2011/12.
