Martín Gastón Demichelis is an Argentine footballer who plays on a position of a central defender for Manchester City and the national team of Argentina.
He started his career at River Plate in 1998. At first, he didn’t manage to become a main squad player but achieved that goal in 2001. At that time Martín spent a few games on a fantastic level thus attracting attention of many football giants from across the ocean and Bayern Münich were among those who kept an eye on the young defender.
He had tough times in the German club for a few years after the transfer especially when he suffered a series of minor injuries that kept him out of the squad for a long while. However he managed to make it to the starting squad mainly with the help of Felix Magath’s skillful management. Also Martín played a huge part in winning Bundesliga of the season 2005/06. All in all Martin spent 174 games for Bayern scoring 13 times.
After a serious row with the manager of the Germans Louis van Gaal on December 24, 2010 Martín moved to Málaga. He signed a 6 month contract with eventual 2 year extension according to the terms of which he had a right to perform for the club for half a year with a two-year extension. The first game that he spent for the club was against Athletic Bilbao on January 8, 2011 in the 18th tour of the season 2010/11. Then he scored a late equalizer earning a vital point for his club.
After a successfull 2,5-year spell with Malaga Demichelis accepted the invitaion of Diego Simeone to join Atletico Madrid in July 2013. However, several weeks later he was lured to Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City.
Demichelis has performed for the national team of Argentina since 2007. During that time he appeared on the pitch 37 times and scored 2 goals including one to Greece during the group stage of FIFA World Cup 2010.
