Matthew Briggs is a defender, born on 6 March 1991 in Wandsworth, England.
In 1999 Matthew joined the Fulham academy. He began with the U-11 youth team and adapted to the new lifestyle rather quickly. Besides, Briggs’s display showed his massive potential. As he grew older, Matthew moved to older teams and took part in different youth championships. He managed to develop into a confident and talented defender during seven years in the academy, which soon helped him to sign a professional contract.
In the summer of 2006 Matthew officially became the first team player of Fulham. Since then, he made only six appearances, because, unfortunately for the defender, the head coach had a rich set of more experienced footballers. However, despite that, Briggs did not lose his heart and tried to look for any opportunities to come on the pitch.
In 2010 Matthew went on loan to Leyton Orient, but managed to take part only in one game. In January 2012 Briggs signed a one-month loan deal with Peterborough United and made five appearances for the temporary club. In 2013 he was sent on loan to Watford, competing for Premier League promotion. In the summer 2014 Briggs was released from Fulham.
From 2006 till 2011, the defender played 30 matches and contributed one goal for the England national U-16, U-17, U-19, U-20 and U-21 teams.
