Mauro Formica is a midfielder of Cruz Azul. He was born on 4 April 1988 in Rosario, Argentina.
Mauro’s youth career took off in the academy of Newell’s Old Boys, where the footballer spent many years and performed for various junior squads.
In 2006, Formica was given a chance to play at the new level, when he was asked to join the main team of the club. That meant he would pen a senior contract and officially become a player of Newell’s Old Boys. Mauro used that chance, but had to watch matches from the substitutes’ bench during his début season. The footballer made occasional appearances for the team, but managed to make a qualitative leap forward and raise his skills, which made his performance more attractive and drew the attention of various clubs.
In 2011, Blackburn Rovers lodged a bid for Formica and secured his services in the summer the same year. The midfielder clinched a place in the starting XI at once and netted five goals in 48 fixtures for ‘The Riversiders’ as of December 2012. In January 2013 Mauro was sent on loan to Palermo.
In August 2013 the Argentine was offered a contract with a Mexican side Cruz Azul.
From 2005 till 2006, Mauro featured in four games and contributed two goals for the Argentina national U-17 squad. From 2008, the footballer has been capped one time for the senior national team.
