Mauro Emanuel Icardi Rivero was born in Argentina in 1993 and at the age of six his family and he moved to Spain. His youth career began at Vecindario and his performances there attracted attention of many Spanish clubs. He switched to Barcelona in 2008/09. There he became a part of the U17 team and then played for U19. In January 2011 Mauro Icardi moved to Sampdoria and till the end of the season played for the Primavera team on a loan deal and in July 2011 he signed a permanent contract which tied him with the club for three years.
His first team debut came on 12 May 2012 in the match against Juve Stabia. Mauro Icardi substituted Bruno Fornaroli and netted the winning goal, making it 2-1. On 6 January 2013 the striker netted twice in the match against Juventus and that match ended in a 2-1 victory.
Icardi made his international debut for the Argentine national U20 football team on 14 August 2012 in the match against Germany. On 19 August 2012 he scored his first goal for Argentina U20 in the match against Japan.
