Max-Alain Gradel plays for Saint-Étienne on a position of a winger. He was born on November 30, 1987 in the capital of Ivory Coast, Abidjan.
His youth career began in 2000 as he entered the football academy of the club Championnet Sport. It took him five years of hard labour in the training ground and successful performance for the youth squad to get noticed by a scouting team of an English club. The talent-seekers form Leicester City visited the academy to look at some gifted youngsters. Max did his best at the exhibition match and was offered to move to England.
Max was offered to sign a professional contract with Leicester thus moving to the club’s first team a year later. Gradel was glad to have an opportunity to perform professionally so he penned a 4-year contract with the English side. During his first season Max gained only a few appearances and he still wasn’t good enough so the player was sent on loan to Bournemouth. Gradel spent the whole season 2007/08 playing 34 games for this club and scoring 9 goals.
After his return the coach used his service more often but still Max couldn’t be called a frequent starter which was rather disappointing for the young player.
In 2009 Gradel was sent on loan again, this time to Leeds United. Though the Ivorian made only occasional appearances he was unexpectedly purchased from Leicester. Max became officially a player of Leeds in January of 2010. Since then he played in 63 games where he made 22 goals.
Saint-Étienne paid attention to this footballer in 2011. The club offered him a generous long-term deal and Max couldn’t resist.
Max was capped by the national team of Ivory Coast two times in 2011.
