Mervan Çelik was born in 1990 Hisingen, Sweden. He spent his youth in Sweden with IF Warta, BK Häcken and GAIS. With the latter one he went on his professional career and in May 2009 he penned a three-year contract. His first team debut came on 20 July 2008 in the match against GIF Sundsvall.
On 20 January 2012 Çelik joined the Scottish Premier League side Rangers, but having appeared in 5 matches, in March he left them because of the financial situation in the club.
Çelik returned to GAIS and in the summer of 2012 he moved to Italy, signing for Pescara. His Serie A debut came in the game against Inter on 26 August.
He was a part of the Sweden U19 and U21 national teams. Being a part of U21 team he made his debut on 2 June 2011 in a 4-1 win against Norway. It that match he scored twice.
