Michael Robert Brown is a midfielder of Leeds United. He was born on 25 January 1977 in Hartlepool, England.
Michael started to play football in the youth system of Manchester City and penned his first professional contract with the club in 1995. However, the high competition for a place in the starting XI entailed the decision to send the footballer on loan to Hartlepool United in 1997. In 1999, Brown completed a temporary move to Portsmouth and made four appearances before returning to his parent Manchester City. The midfielder took part in 92 fixtures and found the net two times for ‘The Citizens’ during four years.
In 1999, Michael transferred to Sheffield United and became one of the pivots almost at once. The footballer developed really quickly and managed to amass 24 goals for the new club during the 2002/2003 season, which earned him the Fans Player of the Year award. Brown featured in 151 games and netted 28 goals for ‘The Blades’ during five years.
In January 2004, Michael sealed a deal with London side Tottenham Hotspur and fired two goals in 50 matches for the team till January 2006, when he put pen to paper of a contract with Fulham. At the end of 2006, the footballer became a captain of the squad and wore the armband till the end of the season. Brown made 41 appearances for ‘The Cottagers’ and signed for Wigan, where he took part in 58 fixtures during two years.
In August 2009, the midfielder’s services were secured by Portsmouth, which suffered from financial problems. That became the reason for the head coach and many players to leave the team, but Michael decided to stay. He featured in 45 games during two seasons and finalized a move to Leeds United in July 2011.
In 1996, the footballer was capped four times for the England national U-21 squad.
