Ahmed Hossam Hussein Abdelhamid, commonly known as Mido, was born on 23 February 1983 in Cairo, Egypt.
In 1999, Ahmed put pen to paper of a professional contract with Egyptian side Zamalek and netted three goals in four matches for the club during one season.
In 2000, the footballer transferred to Belgian side Gent and fired 11 goals in 23 fixtures for the new team during one year as well. In 2001, Mido sealed a deal with Dutch side Ajax and found the net 21 times in 40 games for ‘de Godenzonen’ before completing a temporary move to Spanish side Celta Vigo, where he kicked four goals in eight matches during his spell.
In the summer 2003, the striker moved to French side Marseille and went on to net nine times in 33 fixtures for the club during one season. In 2004, he joined Italian side Roma and featured in eight games before penning a loan deal with English side Tottenham Hotspur. Ahmed made 36 appearances and chipped in 13 goals for Spurs, which helped him to sign for the team on permanent basis right after his spell had ended.
The footballer went on to net five times in 23 games for the club and finalized a move to Middlesbrough. However, after 18 months with ‘The Boro’, Mido had numerous loan spells with teams like Wigan Athletic, Zamalek, West Ham United and Ajax.
In 2011, the striker returned to Egypt and joined Zamalek, but his services were secured by Barnsley in the summer 2012. In the summer 2013 Mido ended his professional career.
In January 2014 he became the manager of an Egyptian club Zamalek.
From 1999 till 2001, Ahmed took part in 13 matches for the Egypt national U-20 squad. From 2001 till 2009, he was capped 51 times and contributed 20 goals for the senior national team.
