Mikael Antonsson is a center back, born on 31 May 1981 in Sillhövda, Sweden.
Mikael began his football career at the age of 8 at Swedish Sillhövda AIK youth academy. Mikael played for the club’s youth team until 1995. Later that year Antonsson signed his first professional contract with Sillhövda AIK. During 2 seasons with his alma mater’s first squad Mikael made 28 appearances and scored 8 goals.
In 1997 the Swedish defender moved to IFK Göteborg and stayed there until 2004. During that time Antonsson made only 51 appearances and netted no goals.
In 2004 Mikael Antonsson was purchased by Austria Wien. During 2 seasons at the new club he made 28 appearances.
In 2006 Mikael signed for Greek Panathinaikos on a 2-year contract. In 2007 though Antonsson was transferred to one of the most titled Danish clubs - Copenhagen. From 2007 to 2011 he successfully played for the club, making a total of 86 appearances and 2 goals. Mikael helped Copenhagen to become the first Danish team to make it to the Champions League playoffs. Antonsson’s popularity skyrocketed after this as the top Spanish and German clubs wanted to acquire his services.
In 2011 Mikael Antonsson signed for Bologna. Three years later he moved to Copenhagen.
From 1996 to 2004 Mikael played for various Sweden youth teams, totaling 47 caps and 3 goals. Since 2004 Mikael has been occasionally called up to play for Sweden.
