Mirko Vučinić was born in Nikšić, Montenegro. He’s Montenegro national team’s captain and best goleador.
After his debut season at one of local Yugoslavian clubs Mirko left for Italy to play for U.S. Lecce. Vučinić played 6 seasons for his new club and has been a key player since 2002. The 2004/05 season was definitely the best in Mirko’s career as he managed to score 19 goals in 28 matches.
In 2006 Vučinić signed a contract with Roma and a season later he became the club’s permanent striker. It happened mostly due to Roma leader Francesco Totti’s injury. Vučinić tried hard to discover his full potential and score as many goals as possible, but after the return of the European Golden Boot winner everyone thought that Mirko will be demoted to a substitute.
But instead of turning the young player down, the head coach Spalletti made a brilliant attacking by putting Vučinić alongside Totti. In 2006 Mirko Vučinić helped A.S. Roma to win Coppa Italia and finish as runner-up in the Italian Serie A.
In the following season, Roma reached the Champions League quarterfinals but lost to the eventual champions Manchester United, and again finished as runner-up in the Italian Serie A. Mirko Vučinić was named Montenegrian Footballer of the Year 5 times. He was capped 22 times for Serbia and Montenegro. Mirko didn’t feature at 2006 World Cup as he had two operations on his knee.
On 1 August 2011 Vučinić signed for Juventus FC, with the annual salary of €3.5 million. The transfer cost Juventus 15 million euros.
