Nicolás Canales is a Chilean forward currently playing for Neftchi Baku in the Azerbaijan Premier League. He was born on 27 June 1985 in Santiago, Chile.
Nicolás started out his professional career with Universidad de Chile in 2004. In 2006, he moved to Portugal where he played for Benfica B and Gondomar. In 2007, Canales signed a contract with the Romanian side CFR Cluj. However, he wasn’t able to reveal his full potential at the club as he was sent on loan to his native country first to Unión Española and then to Cobresal. In between 2010 and 2012, Canales had three fruitful seasons at Palestino amassing 34 goals in 73 appearances. In June 2012, the striker signed for Neftchi Baku from the Azerbaijan Premier League and plays there today. He shortly cemented his place in the starting eleven and as of 24 February 2013, he has already scored 20 goals in 21 appearances which makes him the league top scorer in the 2012/13 season.
In 2012, Nicolás Canales was awarded a cap to the Chile national team. He made his international debut in a match against Paraguay in February.
