Peter Pekarík was born in 1986 in Žilina, Czechoslovakia. He is a defender, currently playing for Hertha BSC. Pekarík came through the youth ranks of MŠK Žilina and then was loaned to ZŤS Dubnica. After a season there he returned to Žilina. In the 2006/07 season he made 35 appearances and helped the team to win the Corgoň Liga title.
In January 2009 Pekarík moved to Germany joining VfL Wolfsburg on a four and a half-year deal. His Bundesliga debut came on 31 January 2009, that match was a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln, and up to the end of the season he was a regular helping VfL Wolfsburg to claim their first Bundesliga champions title. Then he lost he featured as a substitute and was sent on loan to Turkish Kayserispor for the 2011/12 season. In 2012 Peter Pekarík came back to Germany and switched to Hertha BSC.
On 10 December 2006 he earned his first cap for the Slovakia national team, his debut game was against the United Arab Emirates.
