Philippe Senderos is a centre-back, born on 14 February 1985 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Philippe’s youth career started in the youth team of Servette. He began to train in the academy and spent nine years there before aspiring to a place in the main squad. During all those years the back proved to be a talented, solid and promising player, who could meet the strict requirements of professional football.
In 2001 the club was ready to offer him a contract and Philippe accepted it without any hesitation. Senderos spent two years in Servette, made 26 appearances and scored three goals.
The footballer’s level corresponded not only to the Swiss Super League, because head coach of Arsenal Arsène Wenger expressed his wish to buy the young Swiss player, who could consolidate the defense line of the club despite his age. In the summer 2003 Philippe’s signing was completed and he joined the London squad. Senderos did not get to the starting line-up at once and even when he did, his being a regular ended rather quickly. The footballer occasionally made starts or sub appearances so the management decided to send him to Milan on a season-long loan deal. Philippe took part in 14 matches of the temporary team and went on another loan, this time to Everton, where he made only two appearances.
London side Fulham got interested in an opportunity to secure the services of the footballer in 2010. As soon as the club was given a positive answer, Senderos did not stay with ‘The Gunners’ for long and officially became the player of ‘The Cottagers’ in the summer 2010. Four years later he moved to CF Valencia.
In the summer 2014 Senderos returned to Britain and joined Aston Villa.
From 2005 Philippe has been capped 50 times and contributed five goals for the Switzerland national team.
