Reto Ziegler is a Swiss footballer under contract with Juventus.
Reto started his youth career with Gland and having passed through the youth systems of Servette and US Terre Sainte in 2000 the young player joined Grasshopper. The latter subsequently became Ziegler’s first senior club. In 2004 Reto signed for Tottenham Hotspur. Despite his young age Ziegler soon became a player of considerable importance for Jacques Santini’s team and before long got his regular starting spot. In his first season for the club Reto Ziegler appeared 31 times and in 2005 scored the first goal in the New Year’s Day match against Everton. That very year the junior fan club of Tottenham named him the JSM Young Player of the Year.
In 2005, Reto was loaned to Hamburger SV where he did not get enough game practice and in January 2006 returned to Tottenham Hotspur only to be sent on loan to Wigan Athletic. Ziegler returned to the Spurs for the season 2006/07 but appeared only in 4 matches and when the season ended he joined Sampdoria on loan. Later the Italian club paid off the transfer and Reto spent his next four seasons in the jersey of this Genoese club.
On May 26, 2011 the player moved to Juventus on a free transfer, having signed an agreement valid till 2015.
At the beginning of September 2011, Ziegler left for Fenerbahçe on loan that lasted till 2012, whereupon Juventus loaned him to FC Lokomotiv Moscow. Later he rejoined the Turkish club.
In the season 2013/2014 Ziegler played for newly promoted Serie A side Sassuolo.
As an international Reto Ziegler passed through the U-17, U-19 and U-21 Swiss national teams and while representing the under-17 squad, won the 2002 U-17 European Championship. In 2005, Ziegler made a debut for the Switzerland senior national squad.
