Ricardo Rodríguez is a Swiss footballer born to a Spanish father and a Chilean mother in Zurich in 1992.
He made his first steps into football career with a hometown club Schwamendingen at the age of 6. Showing good primary training results, Ricardo caught the interest of the city’s top-club FC Zürich which he eventually joined in the 2004/05 season. He started his senior career at Zürich in 2009 by moving to the second squad where he played 17 games in three seasons.
Rodríguez made his Swiss Super League debut on 1 March 2010 in a 2-0 win over AC Bellinzona which helped him to get a toehold in Zürich first team. He made 35 appearances and scored two goals for the club. Moreover, FC Zürich became a runner-up in the 2010/11 Swiss Super League, thereby opening a gate for a promising young footballer to Germany.
On 13 January 2012 a Swiss defender signed a four-year contract with VfL Wolfsburg. Already in a week he made his German debut in a 1-0 win over FC Köln. Overall, he had 17 appearances for the club in the season.
The biggest international win for Ricardo Rodríguez is the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup victory. Moreover, he earned an international cap in a 0-2 defeat against Wales in UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying on 7 October 2011.
