Robert Cullen is a Japanese striker born on 7 June 1985 in Tsuchiura, Japan.
Despite the footballer’s father is from Northern Ireland and his mother is from Japan, Robert decided to obtain Japanese citizenship.
Cullen’s career took off in Kashiwa Reysol, from where he moved to Júbilo Iwata and penned a professional contract with the club.
At first, Robert took part only in J. League Cup, but he gained playing practice and was given an opportunity to make his J-League début on 5 May 2004. The following season was more fruitful for the striker, as he found the net 13 times in 31 matches and was named the J. League Rookie of the Year.
A series of injuries resulted in Cullen’s loss of form, and he failed to keep his regular place. In 2010, when the player’s contract expired, he moved to the second division side Roasso Kumamoto.
On 14 January 2011, Robert penned a contract with VVV-Venlo. The striker’s first appearance for the new club came on 23 January 2011 in the victory over PSV Eindhoven, where he scored an opener. In 2013 Cullen was released from the club.
