Roman Shishkin was born on January 27, 1987 in Voronezh, Soviet Union. Can play as a right fullback, centre back and is able to feature as a defensive midfielder.
Roman’s father worked for one of the local football clubs and dreamt of his son becoming a footballer. In 2007, he sent the boy to join the youth system of the local FC Fakel. At the age of 15 the young player left for the FC Spartak Moscow youth ranks and on July 7, 2005 made his debut for the first squad, being only 17. Then he didn’t manage to get a regular starting spot in the first side but in 2006 the new manager Vladimir Fedotov was appointed and Shishkin began appearing for the main team on a regular basis. On September 12, 2006 Roman made his European debut. He made a substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
In 2009, Roman Shishkin was loaned to FC Krylia Sovetov Samara. There he spent 25 games and scored one own goal. The latter happened during his then team’s match against his future club Lokomotiv Moscow. Yet this fault didn’t prevent Roman from being a first-string player during the rest of the season.
Having returned from Samara the player faced manager’s distrust and reluctance to include him in the starting eleven again. The option to stay on the bench or to be loaned Roman didn’t like and therefore he was the one who initiated his transfer to FC Lokomotiv Moscow. The contract with Lokomotiv was signed on July 6, 2010 for a fee of $500,000. On July 26, 2010 Roman debuted for Lokomotiv in a friendly against FC Dynamo Bryansk and on August 7, 2010 the fullback featured in the Premier League match against his former club of Krylia Sovetov Samara.
On March 24, 2007 Roman Shishkin made his debut for the Russia national football team. He played all the 90 minutes against the Estonia national squad. In November 2010, the defender got a cap for the match against Belgium whereat was included in the extended list for the UEFA Euro 2012 campaign but did not participate in the tournament being down with a stomach ailment.
