In May 2006 he made his debut for Middlesbrough in the match against Bolton Wanderers. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
After Middlesbrough’s dropping out of the Premier League, Ross refused to extend his contract thus becoming a free agent. His unemployment didn’t last long as Carlo Ancelotti bought Ross Turnbull in the beginning of July soon after taking over the London club and granted him number 22. However, Turnbull only managed to replace Petr Cech in 7 matches and in the summer 2013 was released from the club.
Shortly later he was offered a contract with a Championship side Doncaster Rovers. In the summer 2014 Turnbull switched for Barnsley.
Ross was first called up to the England national U16 team in 2001 and had been playing with his country’s youth squads until 2004.
