An Italian footballer Salvatore Sirigu is a goalkeeper at Paris Saint-Germain FC and Italy national team.
Salvatore’s professional football career started at Siniscola and Rosada youth teams. From there the goalkeeper moved to another youth team (Puri e Forti). The footballer went through a tryout at Cagliari Calcio yet a week later bitter disappointment awaited him as his candidacy was rejected. The same year Salvatore tried out to another football club – Venezia. That time Sirigu stayed in the team until 2005 where he played in the youth team squad. In late August 2004 after the match against US Triestina during the Coppa Italia the footballer was selected to participate in a dope test which turned out to be positive. The test showed that some banned substance in Salvatore’s blood exceeded the norm by six times. Because of that the goalkeeper could have been disqualified for eight months but it did not happen – the specialists analyzed a genetic body build of the sportsman and eventually found out that there was no violation of the norm.
In 2005 the goalkeeper joined Palermo youth team where he immediately became a first choice keeper. However in the major squad he was still only a third-choice keeper. In early November 2006 Salvatore appeared for Palermo for the first time in the Coppa Italia match against UC Sampdoria. In late November the same year he already played against Fenerbahçe in the UEFA Cup. However his performance turned out to be a complete failure as Sirigu conceded 3 goals thus making his team lose to the Turkish club. The same year the footballer played in Palermo’s colours in Serie A. It should be noted that Palermo had less goals against than any other team that season.
In the summer of 2007 the football player was loaned to US Cremonese and appeared in 19 matches missing 22 goals and during three games in play-offs he missed 4 goals. During 15 matches played with AC Ancona Sirigu missed 24 goals in the 2008/09 season.
Salvatore returned to Palermo in 2009 as a second-choice keeper. After several unsuccessful performances of Sirigu’s opponent the goalkeeper was placed in the starting lineup where he made his Serie A debut in the match against Lazio. On 28 July 2011 Salvatore Sirigu signed a 4-year deal with French FC Paris Saint-Germain.
