Sam Johnstone is a goalkeeper of Manchester United. He was born on 25 March 1993 in Preston, England.
In 2009 Sam was lucky to get to the MU academy for a selection. The young goalkeeper impressed coaches with his skill and passed some special tests after a demonstration game. After that, he was officially offered to join the ‘Red Devils’ youth system. During two years from 2009 till 2011, Johnstone perfected his skill playing for the U19 team.
In 2011 the footballer was absolutely ready to join the first team and that is what actually happened in the summer the same year. The young goalkeeper realized that he had to play the role of a reserve goalkeeper, at least in Manchester United. In order Sam could continue his development and stay in an optimal shape, he was sent on loan to Scunthorpe United. Johnstone spent a season there and made twelve appearances. That was a good start for him, as any opportunity to come on the field is an important event for every young footballer.
A loan spell with Walsall followed. In 2013/2014 season Johnstone had brief loan spells with Yeovil Town and Doncaster Rovers.
Since 2008 Johnstone was invited to the England national youth teams.
