Séamus Coleman is an Irish footballer of Liverpool side Everton and the Republic of Ireland national team, who can play both as a right full back and right winger. He was born in Donegal, Ireland.
Séamus began his professional career in Irish side Sligo Rovers. On 14 October 2006, the footballer made his first team début in the match against Waterford United and scored his first and only goal for Sligo in the match against Bray Wanderers in May 2008. He made 55 appearances for the club during three years.
Ipswich Town, Birmingham and Glasgow side Celtic wanted to buy Séamus, but the Irish footballer transferred to Everton for £150,000 in January 2009. ‘The Toffees’ lost in Coleman’s début match against Benfica at Estádio da Luz in the Europa League, but a bit later Séamus got on the English scoresheet by netting his first goal in the Football League Cup game against Brentford.
Soon the back stopped performing for the main team and was sent on a one-month loan to Blackpool in March 2010. The Irish footballer managed to show his skills in the temporary team and ‘The Tangerines’ decided to extend his loan spell till the end of the season. Coleman made 12 appearances for the club and fired one goal. Besides, the back helped his new team to get to the Championship top and gain the promotion to the English Premier League.
Before 2010/2011 Séamus returned to his parent club and managed to become a regular this time. Coleman took part in 40 matches and amassed six goals that season, which resulted in choosing him the Everton Young Footballer of the Year.
The following season was disastrous for the Irish player, because he made only 18 league appearances and did not find the net. However, Séamus managed to retain his status of one of the most promising Everton footballers.
On 8 February 2011, Séamus made his international début for ‘The Boys in Green’ in the 2011 Nations Cup match against Wales. He also had all chances to go to Euro 2012, but failed to clinch the place in the squad, giving way to more famous and skilled Damien Duff and Aiden McGeady.
