Sergei Ignashevich plays as a defender at CSKA Moscow. He was born on 14 July 1979 in Moscow, Soviet Union.
Sergei commenced his senior career in Spartak Orekhovo in 1999. He made 17 starts for the club before joining Krylia Sovetov. During his 1999/2000 spell at Metallurg Stadium he features in 31 matches and scored twice.
In 2001 Ignashevich completed a move to Lokomotiv Moscow. He quickly became a regular name on the team sheet, helping Loko to win a ticket to the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League. During his 2001-2003 spell at the club Ignashevich made 75 appearances and netted 4 goals.
In 2003, Sergei Ignashevich penned a contract with CSKA Moscow. He played at the heart of the defense, but was often deployed at the right-back position. In May 2005 Sergei picked up a UEFA Cup winners’ medal, being an essential part of CSKA. From 2004 to 2012 Ignashevich made over 230 appearances for CSKA Moscow with 25 goals in his tally.
He’s been selected for the Russia national football team since 2002, having made over 80 appearances on the international level so far. Ignashevich was called up to the Russia national team for Euro 2008. Russia finished third, with Sergei playing as a centre back.
