Sérgio Manuel Costa Carneiro, also known as Seginho, is a forward of Beira-Mar. He was born on 21 February 1991 in Trofa, Portugal.
In 2000 the young footballer entered the academy of his hometown club Trofense, so it was easier for him to adapt to football than for many other players who had to leave their native towns and even countries. During five years the forward trained at the academy where he strove for new achievements. Serginho made progress in 2005 when he moved to Porto’s academy. He was the product of Lisbon academy for three years until 2008 where he re-joined the academy of Trofense. There Serginho finally prepared to start his career in professional football.
In the summer 2010, the footballer signed the first professional contract in his career with Trofense. Serginho emerged through its youth system that’s why the head coach knew him well and began to include the forward in the starting eleven during the season. His goal-scoring ability wasn’t good enough however Serginho managed to adjust to his new club playing a significant part in developing and supporting the attack which was very useful for the team.
Serginho’s performances prompted interest from Beira-Mar which plays in the Portugal Primeira Liga. It immediately attracted his attention because the footballer saw the prospects in moving to this top-flight club. The contract was penned in the summer 2011 and Serginho officially joined Beira-Mar. During the 2011/12 season the head coach either included the forward in the starting line-up or utilized him as a substitute giving Serginho an opportunity to show his abilities.
In 2011, Serginho won his first senior cap for the Portugal U-20 football team.
