Shane Ferguson is a back of Newcastle United. He was born on 12 July 1991 in Derry, Northern Ireland.
In 2001 Shane joined the Derry City youth academy, where he spent six years and became fledged and confident as a youth team player. In 2007 Ferguson came in the view of Newcastle United, which invited the back on a trial. The same month Shane went to ‘The Magpies’ academy and passed several tests that were aimed at the detection of the footballer’s physical fitness, potential and other important characteristics. After all tests and a successful demonstration game Ferguson was officially offered to become a trainee of Newcastle United. It took another two years for the footballer to reach the level of a pro.
In 2009 Ferguson signed a contract and became a professional player of ‘The Magpies’. He is very promising and has enough potential to develop; that is why the head coach attentively observes his progress and periodically lets the young footballer on the pitch so that he could make himself familiar with the world of senior football. From 2009 Shane took part in 23 matches for Newcastle United and was loaned to a Championship side Birmingham City.
In 2007 Ferguson was capped eight times for the Northern Ireland national U17 team. From 2008 he was invited to the national U19 and U21 squads and took part in 19 matches. In 2009 Shane made one appearance for Northern Ireland B and soon he was called up to three games of the full national team.
