Shaun Derry is a former midfielder and a coach. He was born on 6 December 1977 in Nottingham, England.
In 1995 Shaun penned his first contract with Notts County and became the anchor player of the midfield for three following years. The head coach usually let the footballer on the pitch in the starting line-up, but sometimes opted for his staying on the substitutes’ bench, when Derry needed a rest.
In 1998 the midfielder moved to Sheffield United and spent two years with the new club. Shaun had to play the role of the anchor midfielder as well and made 72 appearances as a starting squad player.
In 2000 Derry sealed a long-term deal with Portsmouth, but it took him two years to understand everything was not coming out well. The footballer featured in 49 matches and found the net one time during two seasons.
In 2002 Shaun completed a move to Crystal Palace and performed for the club during many years, leaving the club and returning back to it. After two years with ‘The Eagles’, Derry could boast of 83 appearances and three goals. In 2004 the footballer was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest, where the midfielder took part in seven games during the 2004/2005 season.
In the summer 2005, Leeds United secured the Englishman’s services for two years. Shaun took part in 74 matches and kicked three goals before returning to Crystal Palace in 2007, but this time on loan. Derry made 12 appearances for ‘The Eagles’ during his spell, and the management of the club were convinced they had to buy the footballer back. In the summer 2008, the midfielder officially signed for the club once again and featured in 102 games during two fruitful seasons.
In 2010 Shaun ended his Crystal Palace spell with QPR move, where he continued to perform for three seasons. After 92 appearances for the Rangers the 35-year old had a brief loan spell with Millwall.
Later on he retired from playing and took charge of Notts County.
