Sidney is a German footballer, whose father was born in Nigeria. However, the footballer opted to perform for ‘The DFB-Eleven’. His career started in TuS Mettenhof, which he left for Kilia Kiel. In 2002 the player got to the biggest local club Holstein Kiel, which opened him the way to Hamburger SV. Sam played for the youth team during three seasons and signed a professional contract with the German side, making his début in 2007. Hamburger was in a steady three-goal lead during that match, which helped the young footballer to come on as a substitute. He took part in another three similar games without completing the full 90 minutes.
In 2008/2009 Sidney was sent on loan to Kaiserslautern, where he made 26 appearances and netted four goals. That helped him to extend the loan spell with the temporary club for another year. Sam started to play a bit different role in the following season and became more of a playmaker rather than a striker.
In 2010/2011 the footballer moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen and signed a five-year contract. On 25 September 2010, he contributed his first Bundesliga goal in the match against Stuttgart. Sidney Sam played for the Germany U-19, U-20 and U-21 teams and made total 19 international appearances.
