Simon Busk Poulsen is a Danish defender, born on 7 October 1984 in Sønderborg, Denmark.
Simon started his professional career in Sonderjyske where he had been playing for three years. After that the player joined Midtjylland in 2005. In 2008 Poulsen was transferred to AZ Alkmaar for a transfer fee of €3 million. This was the most expensive transfer in the history of Danish club.
Louis van Gaal, than-coach of AZ, decided to re-train Simon to a defender as he didn’t fit to a team as a winger. This was quite a risky move as €3 million could be spent to no purpose.
In 2012 Poulsen joined Italian side Sampdoria. In 2014 he moved to AZ Alkmaar.
In 2007 Simon received his first call-up for the Denmark national team and made his debut in a fixture against Germany.
