Stephen McPhail is an Irish midfielder. He was born on 9 December 1979 in Westminster, England.
Stephen’s youth career took off in the academy of Home Farm, where the footballer spent three years. McPhail managed to show impressive performance for the junior squad of the club and drew the attention of Leeds United, which secured the midfielder’s services in 1995. It took Stephen two years to perfect his skills and earn an invitation to the first squad of ‘The Peacocks’.
In 1997, the footballer penned his first professional contract, but was mainly used as a substitute during his début season. McPhail made 52 appearances and netted two goals for the club till 2000, when he sealed a loan deal with Millwall. In 2003, the midfielder signed for Nottingham Forrest on temporary basis and took part in 14 fixtures for the team during his spell. After returning to his parent Leeds United, Stephen took his tally to three goals in 78 matches by 2004.
In 2004, the footballer put pen to paper of a contract with Barnsley and fired four goals in 73 games for the club during two years.
In 2006, McPhail transferred to Cardiff City and went on to net three times in 190 before being released upon the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2013.
Later on McPhail later played for Sheffield Wednesday and Shamrock Rovers.
