From 1996 to 2003, Stipe appeared on the field for HNK Hajduk Split, his hometown football club. In 2002, Pletikosa was named the best player of the country. In 2003, the footballer moved to FC Shakhtar Donetsk (the Ukraine) for the transfer fee amounting to 2 million euros. When the agreement with the club had expired, Stipe signed a three-year contract with Spartak Moscow. It is notable that the sum of the transition increased by 1 million euros. On 26 August 2010, Pletikosa went on loan to Tottenham Hotspur for a period of six month but unfortunately did not manage to participate in a single match. Soon the footballer went back to Spartak Moscow, and on 18 July 2011, the contract was broken as Pletikosa was invited to Celtic. A little later, the club turned down the contract with the player.
