Tamir Cohen was born on 4 March 1984 in Tel Aviv, Israel. The footballer is the son of Avi Cohen, the late player of Rangers and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Tamir began his career in the junior squad of Maccabi Tel Aviv where the young footballer won the double. Tamir made his Israeli Premier League debut in a victory over Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv in November 2002. Cohen featured for Maccabi Tel Aviv until January 2007, and then he completed a move to Israeli side Maccabi Netanya.
On 1 January 2008 Tamir Cohen joined English side Bolton Wanderers for a fee of £39,000. The 25-year-old football player finished his first season with 11 appearances for his new club. In the 2008/2009 campaign Cohen couldn’t play the key role for Bolton because of a serious thigh injury. The Israeli footballer rejoined the first team only at the end of the season making his first start after the injury in a match against Aston Villa in which he notched a very important goal. From 2008 to 2011 Tamir Cohen netted 6 goals in 49 matches for English outfit Bolton Wanderers.
On 8 August 2011 Tamir penned a four-year agreement with Israeli giant Maccabi Haifa. The footballer rejected an offer to join Greek outfit Panathinaikos in order to be closer to his family in Israel. Tamir earns €300,000 which is the highest salary in Maccabi Haifa.
Tamir Cohen was capped for the Israel national U-19 and U-21 football teams. Since 2007 he has been playing for the senior side.
