Vincent Kompany is a centre back and defensive midfielder of Manchester City, who was born on 10 April 1986 in Uccle, Belgium.
Vincent began his youth career in 1992, joining the Anderlecht academy. It is one of the top Belgian clubs, so career opportunities for trainees are really great. Kompany was lucky to experience that. He had been training in the academy and playing for the youth team for 11 years, when was asked to join the first team.
In 2003 his parent Anderlecht offered Kompany to sign a professional contract. The offer was accepted and the young back signed it immediately. From 2003 Vincent started to play as a regular and soon became one of the pivots in defense. His talent and perfect game vision helped him to turn into one of the Anderlecht brightest stars. During three years in the club he made 73 appearances and scored five goals.
In 2006 Vincent was invited to German side Hamburg. Kompany accepted the invitation of the club that paid €10 million for his transfer. Vincent actively started his performance, but in November 2006 he got a trauma that left him out of football till the end of the 2006/2007 season. In the new 2007/2008 season the club manager kept on putting the Belgian player in the first team. By the end of the 2007/2008 season, Vincent netted a single goal in 29 matches.
In 2008 Kompany drew the attention of Manchester City that discerned a capable player in him despite the poor shape he was in, performing for the German club. Man City paid £6 million and signed a four-year contract with the footballer (later, the contract was prolonged). After some time Vincent became the main centre back of the first team. From 2008 he made 127 appearances and found the net six times. Kompany is currently the captain of Manchester City.
From 2004 Vincent Kompany is the Belgium national football team player. As an international, he kicked two goals in 47 games.
