Volkan Demirel is a professional goalkeeper playing for Fenerbahçe and the Turkey National Football Team, the UEFA Euro 2008 participant. He was born on the 27th of October, 1981 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Volkan trained to play football at a youth school of Kartalspor and had made 51 appearances for the club when he attracted the attention of scouts from a few Turkish clubs. In July 2002 Volkan Demirel joined the squad of Fenerbahçe, but came in on the pitch for the club on the 26th of April, 2003. A year later Volkan Demirel became the first team regular thanks to his quick response and remarkable goalkeeper position feeling.
Starting from 2004 Volkan Demirel was called up for the Turkey National Football Team. He was announced the Hero of the Match against Sevilla FC in the UEFA Champions League, when he had saved three penalties in the penalty shootout.
Volkan Demirel is a holder of a number of team trophies, in particular those of the Turkish Süper Lig, Süper Kupa (Turkish Super Cup) and Türkiye Kupası (Turkish Cup).
