Vurnon San Benito Anita is the Netherlands international, born in Willemstad, Curaçao, in 1989. He began his youth playing career at local CVV Willemstad and VV Maarssen.
In 1999 he joined Ajax football academy and went on playing there till his move to the senior squad in 2005/06. His first appearance in Eredivisie was a 2-3 loss at FC Groningen in March 2006, the following season he wasn’t used, and in 2007/08 he replaced injured or suspended teammates from time to time. Anita became the team’s regular in 2009/10 and helped the side to win the KNVB Cup. In 2010/11 and 2011/12 Ajax won Eredivisie titles.
Vurnon Anita transferred to Newcastle United, signing a five-year deal in the summer of 2012. The transfer fee was of €8.5 million. He made his debut in the first the Premier League season match, which was a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Anita represented the Netherlands at different youth levels and on 26 May 2010 he earned his first international cap for the senior squad. It was a 2-1 victory over Mexico.
