Weligton Robson Pena de Oliveira is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a defender for Málaga CF.
He started to play football professionally at the football club of Paraná in 2002. After playing one season for that squad Weligton joined Panafiel in the second Portuguese division on August 13, 2003. In the season 2005/06 Weligton was a firm starter for that club until he decided to leave when it came clear the club would be relegated.
Grasshoppers from Zürich became Weligton’s next destination. He made 30 appearances for this club and scored once. Then Málaga, a club that played in the second Spain’s division, requested to loan the defender. Grasshoppers agreed so the player spent 38 out of 42 games during one season for the Spanish side. The Brazilian possessed good quality of play so Málaga decided to acquire the player on a permanent basis. After some talks the player signed a 4-year contract with the Andalusian side. He scored his first goal for Málaga on May 17 in the season 2008/09 against Sporting de Gijón.
Weligton had a permanent place in the starting eleven until he got a serious ankle injury that left him out of the squad for the rest of the season. His hundredth start for Málaga happened on October 16 in a game against Real Madrid where his team was smashed 1-4.
Buying a new defender Joris Mathijsen meant only bad news for Weligton. He was forced to warm the bench in most of the games until he appeared in a home draw against Osasuna on December 11, 2011/12. On May 16, 2012 he signed a new contract with his club that would link the parties until the end of the season 2012/13.
