Wilfredo Daniel Caballero Lazcano (aka Willy) is an Argentine goalkeeper.
Caballero started his career in 2001 at Boca Juniors. In 2003 Wilfredo managed to obtain 3 trophies with his club: the Intercontinental Cup, the Libertadores Cup and the Apertura championship. In 2004 he tried his luck in Spain signing for Elche that performs in the Segunda (second Spain’s division). Two years later he returned to his motherland where he joined Arsenal de Sarandí on loan. Willy made 13 appearances for the club and then returned to Spain. In total the goalkeeper spent 173 games for Elche. In 2011 he moved to Málaga on a €900.000 fee. It was an emergency transfer caused by the injuries of Málaga’s keepers.
In the summer 2014 Caballero was lured to Manchester City.
Wilfredo was one of those who won the U-20 World Cup of 2001. He participated in two games there: against Paraguay in the group stage and against Ghana in the semifinal.
Also he was a part of the squad that won the 2004 Olympics however he didn’t appear on the pitch during that tournament. Despite being included in the Confederations Cup entry list he has never been called up to the Argentine senior squad.
