Yan Tigorev was born on March 10, 1984 in Ussuriysk, Soviet Union.
When Yan was 9 his fanily moved to the Belarusian town of Zhodino. There the boy joined the local sports school and started playing football under the supervision of Leonid Khripach.
In 2001, Tigorev became a part of FC Dinamo Minsk. First he played for the reserve side but in 2002 was included in the first squad. In all Tigorev spent 4 seasons in the first team of Dinamo with which he won the Belarusian Cup in 2003 and became the Belarusian Premier League champion in 2004.
In 2007, the midfielder moved to FC Metalurh Zaporizhzhya where he featured in 117 games and scored once.
In March 2011, the footballer signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with FC Tom Tomsk. On March 14, 2011, Yan made his first Russian Premier League appearance against FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod. In the 2011/12 season Tigorev was named the League’s Top Tackler of the first 10 Gameweeks.
In the mid-season the footballer got seriously injured and his medical examination diagnosed a meniscal tear and his right knee’s ligament rupture. This trauma caused Yan’s being out of game for half a year.
Having recuperated the player left FC Tom and in the very pre-New Year 2012 time signed a three-and-a-half year deal with FC Lokomotiv Moscow.
Yan Tigorev was representing the Belarus U-21 national football team in the 2004/06 period. On November 12, 2005 Tigorev made his debut for the main national squad in a friendly with the team of Latvia and participated in the matches of UEFA Euro 2008 and UEFA Euro 2012 qualification campaigns.
