Yann Sommer is a football player from Switzerland, born in 1988. He came through the youth systems of FC Herrliberg, Concordia Basel and then joined the academy of FC Basel. In 2005 he graduated and became Basel U-21 first choice and the first team third choice keeper.
Sommer left Switzerland in the summer of 2007 joining Vaduz in Liechtenstein on a loan deal and throughout the season he helped the side to advance to the Swiss Super League. He returned to Basel on 7 January 2009 to replace Costanzo, the first-choice keeper. Sommer made his first appearance in the Swiss Super League match against BSC Young Boys, which ended in a 2-3 loss.
The 2009/10 season he spent with Grasshopper on a loan-deal and then returned to Basel penning a five-year deal with the club.
He was a part of the Switzerland teams at U16, U17, U19, U21 levels and in 2011 he helped the Switzerland U21 team to become the UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship runner-up. His senior team debut came on 30 May 2012 in a friendly against Romania.
