Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi is a Japanese goalkeeper currently playing for the J-League side Júbilo Iwata. He was born on 15 August 1975 in Fuji, Japan.
Yoshikatsu embarked on his senior career at Yokohama F. Marinos in 1994. After his strong performances during his debut season at the club, Kawaguchi was named the J. League Rookie of the Year. He helped the team to win the J. League in 1995 and 2001. In 2001, Kawaguchi sparked interest of the English side Portsmouth where he moved the same year. However, the things didn’t go well and Yoshikatsu transferred to the Danish giants FC Nordsjælland where he played in between 2003 and 2005. After that, Kawaguchi returned to Japan where he signed for Júbilo Iwata and plays for the team today.
Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi was an international for Japan since 1997 till 2010. He was part of the national team who won the AFC Asian Cup in 2000 and 2004. It’s a tidbit that Kawaguchi is for now the most capped goalkeeper and second most capped Japanese with 116 international appearances.
