Yuri Zhevnov is a goalkeeper, born on 17 April 1981 in Dobrush, Belarus.
Yuri went in for football from early childhood, like the majority of other professional players. At the age of seven, the footballer joined the local football school. Six years later, the young sportsman was invited to the specialized academy in Minsk, from where he successfully graduated.
Zhevnov was capped for the Belarus national youth teams simultaneously with his training. Yuri’s first Minsk side clubs were Smena-BATE, RUOR and RShVSM-Olympia. Performing for those teams, the keeper gained his first experience and significantly raised the level of his professionalism. Since then, Yuri became a solid keeper and confidently stood between the posts in the Belarusian Premier League matches.
In 2000 Zhevnov transferred to the main team of BATE Borisov and made 80 appearances for the new club during four seasons. One interesting fact is that the keeper started his way towards a record from the very first games and, eventually, managed to keep the clean sheet for 763 minutes.
The footballer made one more crowning achievement, when he netted a goal from his position between the posts in the 2004 UEFA Cup match against Dinamo Tbilisi. Besides, during his performance for BATE, Yuri managed to win every possible prize of the Belarusian Premier League and become the Best Goalkeeper of the country in 2003.
From 2005 till 2010, Zhevnov performed for FC Moscow and wore the captain’s armband. The keeper was given a title of the Master of Sports at the end of 2009, and he transferred to Zenit St. Petersburg the following year. During three seasons Zhevnov was a reserve goalkeeper behind Vyacheslav Malafeev and Yuri Lodygin. At the end of 2013 he was released from the club.
Zhevnov has been capped for the Belarus national team since 2002.
