D.C. United is an American professional football club founded in Washington D.C., USA. It is currently playing in Major League Soccer and was one of the ten original clubs which founded the league in 1996.
Throughout its history the club has managed to clinch the champions title twelve times as well as some local cups. D.C. United is one of the most successful MLS clubs. The team managed to clinch U.S. Open Cup twice and MLS Cup four times. D.C. United was the first American club to win MLS Cup and Supporter’s Shield in one year.
On world level the club was a participant of CONCACAF Champions' Сup and CONCACAF Giants Cup. In 1998 the team clinched the CONCANAF Champions’ Cup.
RFK Stadium with the capacity of 45,600 which is situated near the Anacostia River is the team’s home arena. Jaime Moreno, Marco Etcheverry and Eddie Pope are the United’s anchor players. The team has a strong fan support which is considered being one of the best in Major League Soccer. The club’s official nickname is Black-and-Red. The home color is therefore black, away – white and the third color is red.
