Energie Cottbus is a German club organized in 1966. The club hardly can boast of winning major trophies. Their sole competitive honor was the third-division Regionalliga Nordosttitle title which they claimed in 1997. The same year the team finished as runners-up in the German Cup. The first run of Energie Cottbus into the top tier dates back to 2000. It was much to Romanian player Vasile Miriuţă terrific performances that the club got their way to the Bundesliga and held out there for three seasons. After that, the team rotated between the third and the second divisions, except for the 2005/06 season in the top flight.
It’s a tidbit that Energie Cottbus became the first Bundesliga side to field an all-foreign line-up on 6 April 2001. Even the substitutions were made up of foreigners then.
The team play their home matches at Stadion der Freundschaft in Cottbus which can hold up to 22,528 spectators.
