Kawasaki Frontale is a Japanese football club based in Kawasaki. It was founded in 1955 and was funded by Fujitsu. The team made their JSL First Division debut in 1977 and then they were relegated until they advanced to the top division, J1.
Since 1997 the team began to play at the professional level and was renamed into Kawasaki Frontale. In 1999, the team was the first in J2 and got promotion though in 2000 they relegated again and played in J2 until 2004 when they were promoted to the top division and since then the team haven’t suffered relegation. In 2006 Kawasaki managed to finish the league runner-up and showed the same result in 2008 and 2009. In 2007 the team qualified for the AFC Champions League where they reached the quarterfinals.
Several players from Kawasaki Frontale have been called up to the national squad. Among them are Yoshinobu Minowa, Kengo Nakamura, Kazuki Ganaha, Eiji Kawashima and Shuhei Terada.
The team play their home matches in Todoroki Athletics Stadium located in Nakahara Ward.
