Sportovní Klub Slavia Praha is a football club, located in Prague, the Czech Republic. The sports club was founded in 1982 and football was introduced in 1896. The team played their debut match on 25 March 1896 against AC Prague. Shortly after the debut Slavia faced Sparta in a 0-0 draw and that was the beginning of the rivalry between the two clubs from Prague and that rivalry has existed since then.
In 1905 John William Madden, a retired Celtic player, took over as the manager of Slavia and guided the team till 1930. That 25-year long period was the golden era for the team. The following period of success came when the footballer from Admira Vienna Josef Bican joined Slavia. Since 1940 the team was crowned with the league titles four years in a row. In 1950-1960s Slavia had mixed success and twice was relegated. The following league title came in 1996. That year Slavia reached the semifinal of the UEFA Cup.
In 2007/08 and 2008/09 the team was titled as the league winners and they qualified for the group stage of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League though before that they failed to qualify for that tournament five times.
Slavia’s home stadium is in Prague-Vršovice, Eden Arena has a capacity of 21,000.
