Benjamin Robert Olsen is a football manager, currently coaching D.C. United. He was born in 1977 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He spent his youth playing career at FC Delco and then joined the team of University of Virginia, Virginia Cavaliers. In 1997, he was named Soccer America Player of the Year. Having graduated, he joined the Major League Soccer team D.C. United in 1998. Ben Olsen spent there almost entire career with a season-long loan sandwiched in-between at Nottingham Forest (2000/01). In 2009, he retired, having made 221 appearances for D.C. United, having scored 29 goals. The team won two MLS Supporters’ Shields, two MLS Cup titles and the U.S. Open Cup. Olsen won several individual honours: MLS All-Star twice, 1998 MLS Rookie of the Year, 1999 MLS Cup MVP and 2007 MLS Best XI.
He represented the US national team and earned 37 caps. He was a part of the team, winning the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In 2006, he participated in the FIFA World Cup.
In January 2010, Olsen became an assistant coach at D.C. United and then was appointed as the head coach.
