Jose Manuel ‘Chepo’ de la Torre Menchaca is a former attacking midfielder.
De la Torre was born in 1965 in Guadalajara, where he started his professional playing career. Then Jose Manuel de la Torre had s short spell in Spanish Liga club Real Oviedo, where he made 32 appearances and scored 8 goals.
He played for Puebla F.C, Cruz Azul, Tigres, Necaxa and the high point of his career was in Chivas de Guadalajara. From time to time he was called for the Mexican national team though he was never called for a FIFA World Cup.
His managerial career started with Chivas de Guadalajara and he led the team to winning the 2006 Primera División de México. In 2008 he headed Toluca and brought them to 2008 and 2010 Primera División de México victories.
In February 2010 de la Torre was appointed the head coach of Mexico national team and made his debut in the friendly game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which ended in 2-0 victory. Under his guidance Mexico won the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. That was his first tournament as Mexico’s head coach. His first defeat was in the friendly match with Brazil 1-2.
During the qualification campaign to the 2014 World Cup the Mexico was on the brink of failing and De la Torre was sacked in September 2013.
