Masanobu Matsunami is a former footballer and a coach. He is a retired footballer, born in 1974 in Gifu, Japan. He graduated from Teikyo High School and spent his entire playing career at Gamba Osaka. He made his debut on 20 November 1993 and immediately scored a hat trick thus becoming the youngest footballer in the history of J. League Division 1, who managed to do it. Matsunami was only 18 years and 364 days old. In total he made 280 appearances and scored 45 goals for the team, where he was one of the key players. He featured for the team regularly during his playing career and practically never missed matches until the end of his career. He represented the team at the Emperor’s Cup, J. League Cup and retired in 2005. In 2010, Matsunami began to work with Gamba Osaka as an assistant coach and in March 2012 he was appointed as the manager. However, the club was struggling at the bottom of the table and Matsunami was released in January 2013.
