History and achievements
The Brazil national football team won the largest number of titles in the World championships and has the 11th position in the FIFA World Rankings.
The team is one of the South American teams which have the title Selecao, that means ‘the selected’. Having won the World Cup for the fifth time in 2002, the team got a nickname Pentacampeão which means ‘five-fold champions’.
An interesting fact about the team is that it was the runner-up in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. In 1980 they lost to the Uruguay national team.
In 1930 Brazil made its debut in the World championship in Uruguay but wasn’t a success at the very initial stage. But in the next championship in Italy the team finished third and after that Brazil has almost always been successful. Specialists say that attacking football combined with excellent dribbling and high speed are the team’s advantages, which help the team to perform very well.
The team was third in 1978 and twice they finished runners-up in 1950 and in 1998. And, as it has already been mentioned, the team won the World Cup for 5 times (in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and in 2002). A recession followed in 2006 in Germany and in 2010 when the team didn’t manage to make it to the semi-final. Mano Manezes is the Head Coach today. Pele is a long-running top scorer and a true legend in the World football.
